Law enforcement in Sacramento are investigating a shooting incident that occurred late Saturday at the Howe Community Park area just as Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies were dissolving a large unsanctioned party of hundreds of attendees.
Background
Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies first arrived at Howe Park shortly before 6:30 PM after being notified of individuals who may have had concealed firearms. After that, Arden Arcade Sacramento crime 2026 a follow-up call was made about a potential altercation occurring at Howe Park.
Air support searched from above but was unable to locate the reported altercation. Nevertheless, it became clear that a crowd of several hundred had packed into the park in an unauthorized manner.
When the Shots Rang Out
Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies started clearing the unauthorized gathering by encircling the gathering and announcing over their public address systems telling attendees to clear out. Roughly 15 minutes were given for people to comply.
As the crowd was being cleared that an estimated 20 to 25 shots were discharged. Gunfire sent hundreds fleeing. Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies swiftly started searching for victims.
Four Victims Hospitalized
Altogether, four gunshot victims were confirmed as gunshot victims. The victims — including a female and three males each apparently in their 20s — were rushed to local Sacramento hospitals. Medical personnel noted that two were treated for serious injuries, one sustained moderate wounds, and one sustained minor gunshot wounds. As of last report, all four victims survived and were stable.
Metro Fire Sacramento were called to the scene and helped triage those who had been shot on location.
The Investigation
Most of the gunfire was confirmed to have happened on the Cottage Way side of the park near the local Home Depot at the 2200 Howe Avenue block. Detectives found additional spent rounds throughout the Cottage Way area. Ballistic damage were identified in the metal fencing bordering the nearby Home Depot. This evidence suggested that a second shooter had been discharging rounds toward the south from along Cottage Way targeting the Home Depot building and parking lot. The store itself was temporarily locked down during the incident. CSI investigators and detectives worked tirelessly throughout the night.
Arrests Made
Details gathered through law enforcement radio communications confirmed that a Kia had been detained in nearby Solano County. Four detainees were taken into custody. Sacramento law enforcement were en route to collect those detained to collect the individuals for formal questioning. Footage analyzed by investigators established that there were two gunmen.
